Jeanie Patterson was brought to tears when she received a surprise she never saw coming, a house full of Christmas gifts for her and the children she takes care of.
“I don’t know how to express thanks to all of you and to Tim,” said Patterson. “It’s a blessing in disguise.”
Patterson, who runs a daycare out of her home, was nominated by Timothy Moon for the Idaho Lottery Holiday Wish Contest because of her willingness to help others despite the hardships she faces in her life.
“She’s just a great lady,” said Moon. “Through good times and bad times she is still there. She’s just so deserving.”
Moon wrote into the Idaho Lottery telling Patterson’s story about how even though she has very little financially, she continues to look after his son and the other children at her daycare. Her story moved them so much they decided to give her the Christmas she didn’t think she would have.
“The way that Timothy portrayed her, the person that she is and the way she has been able to help others for year and years,” says Austin Rogerson, Idaho Lottery.
Patterson says her love for children is what keeps her going, and she was excited to see that the children she looks after will also have a better Christmas.
“I’ve just always loved being around children to just to watch them grow, help them learn, and be there for them if they need me,” said Patterson.
This was the biggest surprise Patterson has ever received, and she says it’s a Christmas she will never forget.
“This will be, in fact, the best Christmas I’ve had.”
The Idaho Lottery received nearly 500 entry’s and Patterson was the first place entry.
Along with $500 of gifts Patterson and her family were also recipients of an all-expense paid holiday meal.
